clean and sober not dead
An awesome message...

I can find so much peace and serenity from the stories and legends of the Native Americans.
This is a story which I found at the
Native Arts website.

An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, "A fight is
going on inside me ... it is a terrible fight and it is  between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy,
sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and  faith.
The same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too."

They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?" The old
Cherokee simply replied...  "The one you feed."

Creating Dreams...

"Oh Lord, I ain't what I want to be...
Oh Lord, I ain't what I oughta be...
Oh Lord, I ain't what I'm gonna be...
But thanks, dear Lord,
I ain't what I use to be..."

Looking Inside For a Change

help… is what I asked of Him
to remove my shortcomings…
then maybe… a new life could begin

insecurities make for shaky days
not sure of my future… but…
believe it will be a better way

on my knees… just a little longer
humbly asking for His forgiveness
everyday… getting a little stronger

thought it was hard to put the bottle down
that was easy… it was physical
but the emotional… would toss me around

yelling most of the time
had no knowledge on how to act
the stress… would be a good sign

I finally yelled instead of drank
I began to understand
and God I would thank

another part of me began to die
a part I wouldn’t miss
the deceit, manipulation, and lies

The Third Step Prayer

Listen to the voice

in the silence
thoughts raced through the mind
better than a dream
the world shut out
no need to talk
just listen
to a voice
a voice... deep within

soothing and calming
a voice not heard
for decades
a voice which
abuse couldn't silence
and the nightmares
couldn't kill

the voice of a childhood
still waiting to live
begging...
to come out
and play
abuse taught survival
the voice could teach life

Powerful Message...

May I keep an open mind especially on spiritual matters, remembering that "spiritual" is a bigger word than
religious."  I was born of the Spirit, but I was taught religion.

From the meditation book

then...maybe you
haven’t had it yet."

How it works...

AA makes certain promises if a person follows their program.  Early on, I didn't believe them.  But I went along
with the program and decided I would give it time.  That is the key.  An alcoholic doesn't get into trouble
overnight.  His behaviors and damage took years to develop.  And no matter how hard you try, you will not
undo the damage overnight.  Heck I've been sober for over 12 years and some of the damage still exists.  I
guess it is true, the old AA saying
One Day At A Time.  The only thing I can do is remain sober and mentally
healthy, so when I do have a chance to correct my wrongs it will be "real."

See how it works. (PDF)
